The Church of St Philip and St James lies at the geographical centre of the parish but in one of the least populated areas. The parish is rural covering small hamlets, and part of the village of Pant. The majority of the parish population of 843 is over 40.
The church was built in 1873 with local stone, though the site has been a place of worship since 1685. Today the regular worship takes place every Sunday and lay members are encouraged to take part. Holy Communion Services use Common Worship order 1 (contemporary language). There is also a choir that sings once a month and for festivals and weddings. At major festivals the parish, including the wider community, holds special celebrations. These include the Christmas Tree festival, the Nativity Procession and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake race.
The church produces a monthly magazine and has an active programme of social and fund raising events. In this way church life also embraces the wider community, offering an opportunity for the church to be seen as a major part of village life.
Morton is a lively and happy church, well loved by its regular members.
